Montpelier Pre Primary School was started in 1966 by a group of the Durban Jewish Womens Union (DJWU) in order to educate the children of these women. This was largely because there was a shortage of school facilities at the time. The State briefly took over the school until 1997 when the school became an independent school. Today Montpelier Pre Primary School is a member of ISASA (Independent Schools Association of South Africa) and the Principal is a member of SAHISA (South African Heads of Independent Schools Association). The school aims to provide an enriching, developmentally-appropriate environment of academic excellence.
