The Le Roux family bought the farm Mooikelder, in the Northern Paarl district, in 1913. The farmhouse and original wine cellar were built in the early 1800's, with only a few different owners having owned the property, one of which was the famous Cecil John Rhodes. Mr. Jan Le Roux, the present owner, has farmed Mooikelder since 1989, having previously been the CEO of the large retail group, Pepkor. The farm Joubertsdal, which formed part of the original Mooikelder farm, was reincorporated into Mooikelder during the mid 1900's. This was followed by the purchase in 1994 of the farm Sandrivier in the Wellington district and in 1995 the farm Broodkraal, which is situated in the Piketberg district of the Western Cape. This is one of the largest privately owned grape farms in South Africa. Both these properties were formerly wheat farms.
