In 1973 Ret formed Orsmond Aerial Spray using a single Piper Pawnee aircraft and from these humble beginnings Ret built the crop spraying fleet to 35 operational aircraft making it the largest privately owned fleet of agricultural aircraft in South Africa Utilising mostly Ayres Turbine Thrush aircraft it operates throughout Africa covering all forms of agricultural aviation Orsmond Aerial Sprays head office is located at the Bethlehem Airfield South Africa The small town and the surrounding area is mostly dependant on agriculture with the principal crops being wheat maize beans and potatoes Capable staff members undertake centralised administration for all divisions of the company at the head office All aircraft are maintained in large workshop facilities at the Bethlehem Airfield The company administrative and stores departments manage the procurement of spares that mostly have to be imported
