Sandblasting, in common uses, refers to the actual high pressure blasting of sand to remove layers of glass or other materials from a surface. Designs are available either with frosted background which is negative, or frosted pattern which is positive. Abrading a surface, such as concrete, by a stream of sand, ejected from a nozzle by compressed air, is used for cleaning up construction joints or carried deeper to expose the aggregate.
