A drive shaft or propeller shaft is a mechanical component for transmitting torque and rotation, usually used to connect other components of a drive train that cannot be connected directly because of distance or the need to allow for relative movement between them. A prop shaft or a drive shaft in a vehicle transfers power from the gearbox to the wheels. Power from the engine is delivered to the transmission, which in turn delivers power to the drive shaft, which in turn transmits power to the drive wheels.
