Vuleka school for the Deaf, was initiated by the Dutch Reformed Church in Natal on the 12th of June 1961. It was established for Blind and Deaf Zulu children. The initial learners enrolled were Blind in 1962 and in1965 the Deaf, hence the name Vuleka School for the Deaf. All learners are boarders and to a present capacity of 350 learners from R to 12. Currently there are +/- 93 staff members, 43 educators as per PPN 2010 and 51 non teaching Admin. , hostel , kitchen, security and cleaners. The school receives 70% of funds as Government Subsidy through the Department of Education, KwaZulu Natal, 20% is receives through boarding funds from parents, 10% is received through donations.
