Animal feed is food given to domestic animals in the course of animal husbandry. There are two basic types viz fodder and forage. The former is a type of animal feed any agricultural foodstuff used specifically to feed domesticated livestock such as cattle, rabbits, sheep, horses, chicken and pigs. Forage is when the animals fend for themselves. Fodder include hay, straw, silage, compressed and pelleted feeds, oils and mixed rations, sprouted grains and legumes such as bean sprouts, fresh malt and spent malt. Most animals feed is from plants but some manufactures add ingredients to processed feeds that are of animal origin.
