The Gledhow Sugar Company (Pty) Ltd was founded on the 10th September 2009 on the acquisition of the Gledhow Sugar Mill at Stanger, KwaZulu Natal,by a consortium of four shareholders.The Gledhow Sugar mill has a long history of supplying the Southern African market, having first commenced operation at the current site in 1912. The original owners of the mill were CG Smith, F Reynolds, W Pearce and the Crookes brothers - pioneers of the South African sugar industry. Later, Illovo Sugar Limited took ownership,and between 2004 and 2009 Ushukela Milling. In 2009 the shareholding was expanded to include the current shareholders.Based on the latest Mill Group Board seasonal cane estimate, the current 2016/17 crop stands at approximately 1 200 000 tons of cane with estimated refined sugar production of about 155 000 tons.
