The ACVV Poplarlaan is a non-profit organization, rendering developmental social work services with a focus on children, families and older persons. The target areas include Kensington, Holland Park, Korsten, Schauderville, Gelvandale and Helenvale, all characteristically under resourced, poverty-stricken communities with extensive social problems. In order to address some of these problems, the social workers of the ACVV Poplar Avenue coordinate three soup kitchens in Schauderville, a feeding scheme for primary school children and a work-for-food project. 3 playschools - managed by 2 social workers, Pikkewyntjie Versorgingsoord, Doempie Playgroup, Mina Moo Playgroup. 2 housing complexes mainly for sub-economical pensioners and a Service Centre for recreational purposes.
